David Russell, DMD

Dr. Russell was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his undergraduate studies in 1984 at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville earning a B.S. in Medical Science.  He went on to receive his D.M.D. at Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine in 1988.

After dental school, he completed a one-year general practice residency at the Walter Zoller Memorial Dental Clinic, University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. Upon completion of this residency, he went on to do a second general practice residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

While in this residency he became interested in dental implants and decided to complete a two-year fellowship in Implantology and Biomaterials. This fellowship was with one of the early pioneers in dental implants, Dr. Norman Cranin. The Implantology fellowship was completed at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, in 1992.

After the Implantology fellowship, Dr. Russell went on to complete a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry, and Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He completed his training and received his certificate in Oral and  Maxillofacial Surgery in 1996.

Once he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training, he decided to start a private practice in Hawaii on the Island of Kauai. In 1996 he moved his wife and two small children to Kauai where he started, Emerald Island Oral Facial Surgery, Inc. Dr. Russell has a full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery practice with a particular interest in dental implants.

He is a member of the American Dental Association, Hawaii Dental Association, Kauai County Dental Society, and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has hospital privileges at Wilcox Memorial Hospital and Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Russell spends his free time with his family hiking and swimming.
